I think the character that deserves the most pity is Oedipus. I think it's him because his fate turned out to be more tragic than Antigone. Antigone was able to make her own decisions leading up to her death. She was able to change the direction her life was going, she just chose not to because she thought was she was doing was right. Aposed to Antigone, Oedipus's fate was decided at birth. He lead a life full of lies and when the truth came out, everything went down hill. That is why i believe Oedipus deserves more pity than Antigone.
ReplyDeleteI think Oedipus deserves the most pity & suffers the most. For one, he killed his father & slept with his mother, even though he didnt know it, so that stinks. Second, while trying to rid Thebes of its curse by killing or exiling the killer of Laios, he found out that it was him, so that meant the prophesy he was told came true, meaning he would have had to exile himself!. Third, after hearing the news, his wife/mother killed herself & then he blinded himself, so that just stinks worse than everything right there. not to mention that his own children/brothers/sisters were doomed to a life of failure probably because of him & what he did. Therefore, those are my reasons for why Oedipus deseveres the pity.
ReplyDeleteI think the character that suffers the most is Oedipus. He definitely suffers the most because Antigone made her own choice to go against Creon. Oedipus had no choice no matter what he did to stop, his fate always caught up with him. But Antigone on the other hand could have prevented what she did. Antigone could have not given her brother a proper burial she could have just not even cared. She would have saved herself the misery.
ReplyDeleteI feel that out of the two Oedipus was the one that sufferd more. However out of the two Antigone deserves more pity. Oedipus had to find out that he killed his father and beded his mother. No one should ever have to find out all of that and plus he was always bound to fate. Where Antigone was punished for trying to bury his brother. This is whyAntigone deservers mercy but oedipus sufferd more
ReplyDeleteI believe Oedipus deserves the most pity, hands down. Oedipus had left his first home, leaving behind his entire life. Then he goes to this new place and just when he seems life can't get any worse he's hit with a big bombshell. He finds out he killed his own father. On top of that, he slept with his mother. Then he stabs his eyes out. Finally, he's exiled from the city he not only ruled and took care of, but saved, talk about a real kick in the face. Compared to just being sealed in a tomb for burying your dead brother, I believe it's not as bad.

ReplyDeleteI think the character that suffers the most and deserves the most pity is Oedipus. First off he was left abandon by his parents, finding out on his own that what he called his mother and father weren't his real parents. After fleeting his hometown, his life turns upside down. Killing his father, and marrying his mother-eventually leading to her hanging herself. He was never told the truth about his life which I pity him for because I would want to know the truth about my life, if I had been abandon. I think he truly suffers more because of his crimes he unknowingly committed towards his parents, he blames himself for. Therefore he stabs his own eyes out and wishes to be exiled far away from everyone in the world.

ReplyDeleteI think that Antigone suffers the most pitty. If you think about it, her dad is her brother and her mom is her mom and grandmother, that's kind of messed up. I know that i feel bad for her. She had no control over all that had happened. I'm sure she would have changed all of this around if she knew what was coming. Her brother dies and king Creon says that he is not allowed to be burried. She feels that her brother should have a proper burrial and gets in trouble for that. As a result of this messed up life that she has she kills herself.
In my opinion, I think Oedipus deserves the most pity. Before his time of death, he found out a lot of things in his life, that were unfortunately, terrible and haunting things. He found out his married, and had kids with his own mother. Plus, he was his father's own murderer. Antigone on the other hand, didn't find out anything as bad as Oedipus, she died because she was put into a cell all by herself, which led to her death. So in my opinion, Oedipus seffered the most, and deserves much more pity than Antigone.

I think Oedipus suffered the most, for many many reasons. The first would be going through being left out in the desert to die by his own father. Later unknowingly killing him and marrying his mother. Also living with this until he later dies. But with Antigone she chose to do everything she had done and was completely fine with it until the day she killed herself. Don't get me wrong it's not right to lock someone away but she could of been treated much harsher for what she had done.
ReplyDeleteI think that Oedipus suffered the most and deserves the most pity. Oedipus didn’t know about his real birth until the end when Teiresias was forced to tell Oedipus what the truth was about his birth. He found out that his mother was his wife and he had children with her and that he killed his own father without realizing. Unlike Antigone, Oedipus couldn’t change his fate nor could he have known about his true birth. Antigone went against Creon and she knew that she could die from disobeying his law, so she chose her own fate. She also wanted to have the spot light just for her and because even though she was courageous, she was very selfish and because of that she died. For those reasons, I believe that Oedipus deserves the most pity.
ReplyDeleteI definitely feel that Antigone suffered the most and deserves the most pity. Her father, Oedipus, had a very long, happy life for quite some time. It appeared to me that he had a happy childhood, fell in love, got married, had children and was the King of Thebes. Not many people ever find this much happiness or become a king. It was only after Oedipus was older that his life fell apart, he blinded himself and wandered around. Toward the end of his life, he did find some additional satisfaction. Antigone, on the other hand, never had the opportunity for much happiness. She never got married. Her mother committed suicide, she voluntarily took care of her father and wandered all over with him leading him around after he became blind, she begged for food and shelter for them, basically wore rags because they didn't have much money and didn't appear to have much happiness in her life what-so-ever. Her two brothers ultimately killed each other, her sister refused to even help her attempt to bury their brother whose body was left to rot. Creon originally stated that Antigone and her sister would be killed. He subsequently changed his mind and decided that her sister would be allowed to live and Antigone would be sealed in a tomb to die of starvation rather than be stoned to death by the city. Antigone ultimately hung herself while she was in the tomb and her fiancee (Creon's son) was so upset when he found out that he killed himself as well. I don't even like to think about all the mental anguish she must have suffered. To sum it up, it is obvious to me that Antigone's life had very little happiness in it in comparison to her father.

ReplyDeleteI think Oedipus deserves more pity than Antigone. Oedipus' fate was much more tragic and upsetting than Antigone's. Antigone actually made the decision to break the law. It was her fault for breaking it, and for breaking the law she had to be punished for the crime. Oedipus' fate was set in stone from the beginning. Even when he tried to avoid it, his fate still caught up to him.
I beileve that Antigone should recieve the most pity. Her actions were out of love and respect for the Gods that she worshiped. Oedipus' fate was determined from his careless behavior when he was young. Antigone was only trying to help and horror her brother, like every person should be treated. Oedipus just went on a killing streak because she was unhappy with his life. In my opinion, I believe Antigone did nothing wrong and should be given the most pity.
ReplyDeleteI believe Oedipus suffered the most in this tragedy. I think that Oedipus just wanted to live his life the way he wanted but the gods were in his way. Oedipus was trying to escape his fate but everything still turned out as predicted. Oedipus didn't want his life to turn out the way it did. Unlike Antigone that chose to bury her brother knowing that she was going to die when she got caught. That is who i think is the character that suffered the most was.
ReplyDeleteI completly think that Oedipus has been through the most hands down. He had to live his hole like knowwing that he may kill his father, and marry his mother. The worst part of it is that it all came true. Antigone has had a choice not to go barry her brother. If she chose not to go barry him she would stil alive and married. Also Oedipus went blide at his own law. Oedipus also lost his empire to his best friend.

I think that Oedipus deserves the most pity. He had everything going for him but then led to his own downfall. Antigone did the same thing, however Oedipus suffered a fate worse than death. He had to live blind and alone in exile. Antigone just killed herself. All in all, they both had very sad lives though.

I think that Oedipus deserves the most pity. Only because he brought on his fate by accident while trying to avoid it. Oedipus didn't want to kill his father or marry his mother, he wanted to escape all of that. So he put himself out there and then fulfilled it anyway. Antigone purposefully broke the law that Creon wrote. She didn't have to hang herself if she had waited just a little bit longer she would have been free. Antigone was a martyr and she did it on purpose to get attention. So really she deserves no pity at all.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Antigone deserves the pity because she died for something she stronfgly believed in, and she didnt let anything stop her. Though, Oedipus suffered the most with his horrible fate, and sleeping with his mom was a pretty hard thing to bear. Antigone suffered less because she actually was ready to just do it and die. Oedipus was ignorant and neglected to just listen so he caused his own suffering.

ReplyDeleteI think Oedipus suffers more then Antigone. Oedipus didn't know what would happen to him. However, Antigone knew what she was doing and deserved her punishment. Oedipus tried to escape causing any harm to his family but fate wound up catching up to him anyway. He was always trying to be a fair ruler and do what was best for his people. Antigone knew what she was doing and what she did was wrong.
I believe the Oedipus deserves the most pity because of all of his suffering.Antigone more of caused her bad will by going against the king and eventually killing herself.Oedipus sufferd multipul times and there was nothing he could do because it was the will of the gods.He was trapped in his own life.He struggled and was tormented by many factors in his life.Antigone was only brave, stuborn, and willing to die to lay her brother to reast. That is a short term stuggle rather than a long term struggle.
ReplyDeleteI feel that Oedipus suffers most because his life seems much more difficult. Oedipus was abondoned as a small child. He fell in live with his own mother, and slept with her. Oedipus should be pitied more I feel because he didn't know it was his mother. He also killed his own father, by which he had no idea that he did so. Also, I pity Oedipus more because he hated himself for doing so . But he had no control over what happened. Therefore, he killed himself because of the grief that he couldn't live with.
