Write an Ode

Write your own ode based on the Pablo Neruda odes we read and discussed in class. Be sure to incorporate some Surrealist elements into your ode (refer to the "Surrealism" handout I distributed in class if you are unsure). The ode should be long enough so that it is clear to me that you understand what an ode and Surrealism are. Be creative! :) Remember to check spelling and grammar! Due Monday, April 4; worth 20 points

  1. My iPhone is my brain.
    It does everything I cant.
    It's my life, my world.
    Without it I'm nothing.
    Without it I'm dead.
    It keeps me straight.
    It keeps me on track.
My life revolves around this one object.
It's all I really care about.
    I think I'm inlove.
    Is that even possible?
    Can I marry it?
I promise to love and to cherish it for as long as I live.
    It is everything I need.
    I love my iPhone.

  2. Mercedes

    My cat is unique
    She has eyes of gold
    Her skin is velvet
Her posture is of a queen
    She sleeps like an angel
    And stalks like a lion
    From the pyramids of Eygpt
    She is my sphynx kitten

  3. Lola

    Lola,
    the world's cutest beast.
She is the most passionate creature there ever was.
Brown eyes the size of planets
    will melt your heart.
    Timid, yet loud,
she will eat anything in the house.
    She is loyal and loving
    and softer than silk.
    Lola rubs against my side
    coating me in golden fur.
She is big as a horse
    yet gentler than a lamb.
    I love Lola
more than anything in the world.

    Cody

    My dog is one-of-a-kind
His fluffy white fur reminds me of Winter
Yet his blue warm eyes reminds me of Summer
    He sleeps so innocently
But once he's awake and playing, he's everything but innocent
Hands down, the cutest dog you'll ever see
Lives in my house and goes by Cody

  5. You come crawling in as a spider
Not a warning or a prevention
    Coming to take lives everyday
The suffering you bring for months at a time
Never giving us a reason as to why
    Smothering our loved ones
    With that sickness that kills
I can't imagine the pain a victim has
    You fill our blood, organs
    and everything you please
    With your poisoning venom
Snatches us all, trapping us in your web
When every one of us will fall
As the rain comes in the spring
And you left with our loved one
we all feel the everlasting pain
Cancer comes like a flash of light
    And then she's automatically gone

  6. Booming with earth-shaking might
    Blinding with a white flash
Thunder and lightning come as one
To form the element of all our lives
Powering our phones, our computers, US
    It shocks through everything
    Like air through our bodies
    Like thoughts through a clueless
    It invigorates and destroys
    Electricity, the son of fire
    The element with no credit
    The ruler of technology

  7. My bike is like a god
    it cost
so much but means that much the same
    it gives me freedom
its going to be the end of me I swear
    the bike I love
    the bike I hate
but I feel so alive with it below my
    feet
    flying though the air
    with gravity turned off.

  8. Ode to Music.
It gives me strength when I do not have any
On my darkest of days, nothing can cheer me up better than a good song
With music I am never alone
It will never grow old and get sick
    It will never leave me
    Nor will it ever die
Music puts a smile on my face when there is nothing to smile about.
It is my one true love
and I know it will love me forever.
