The sacrafice that the king make is Sigi shows how devoted he is to keeping the dove safe. To keep the dove safe the king promises to give the hawk food every day. In doing this, the hawk wants to eat part of the king. The king could have easily said no to the request. He felt bad for the dove and sacraficed his own body to feed the hawk. The gods are doing this to Sigi to see if he is gifted. The fire god appears as the dove and informs the king that he has won the challenge. When the king takes a small part of his leg off the people around him beg the hawk for that to be enough. The hawk wants to see if the king will really do it and wants more flesh. The king proves himself to be fit to be a king.

In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George is forced to sacrifice his best friend, Lennie, in order to protect him. The men at the ranch are looking for Lennie to kill him because he murdered his bosses wife. Lennie has to run away and hide where George told him to. When George gets there, Lennie is sitting in the grass crying. George then pulls out a gun and kills Lennie to protect him from the torture the men were going to make him face. George sacrifices his morals, and his best friend. He helps Lennie have an easier death than being lynched and having to go through all that pain. In the end, George had to make a sacrifice that will haunt him for the rest of his life.

  4. In John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, George has no choice but to sacrifice his bestfriend Lennie; not only for his protection, but for others as well. Very commonly Lennie would accidently kill animals that he held, such as baby mice, rabbits, puppies, etc. George would yell at him for it, but he didn't get too mad because he knew Lennie had a mental disability. Eventually Lennie's actions got out of hand; when Lennie snapped the neck of Curley's wife. Once george found out, he knew what he had to do, he grabbed a gun, and found Lennie hiding where he told him to go whenever he had done something bad. As he comforted Lennie, he pulled the gun out; shot his bestfriend in the back of the head. never did he think that he would have to do such a thing when it came to Lennie; but he knew it was better to get rid of the life in which was causing other lives to be spared. Lennie would always be there no matter what; right in George's heart.

  5. In the story The Tempest by William Shakespeare, a few things are sacrificed. Prospero sacrifices his magic. He learns that his magic is harmful to others and that it only causes bad things. Prospero sacrifices Ariel and Caliban because he lets them go at the end of the story. He is sacrificing having servants so that they can be happy. Prospero gets rid of his magic to end the feud with his enemies. We learned in the story that Prospero loves his magic. Him giving up his magic is a huge sacrifice. Also, he sacrifices it for his daughter, Miranda. Miranda doesn't like her dad using the magic against her and his enemies. Prospero makes a huge sacrifice by giving up his magic.

In John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, George sacrafices his only friend. It is just George and Lenny. Lenny always manages to mess things up for the both of them. Even when the things are going good. George gets tired of good things going bad with Lenny. So he kills him. George feels relieved when he kills Lenny. Another person that is with George even says that he had to do it. In a way he helps Lenny out. When he got shot, he didn't feel it. But since he killed his bosses wife, he might have been killed a more harsh way.

  8. In the novel “Antigone” by Sophocles, one of the main characters, Antigone, sacrificed her life. In this novel, the king stated that no one can bury Antigone’s brother because he fought against the king and killed his brother. Antigone went against the king’s rule and buried her brother, therefore sacrificing her life. Also, when she got caught she admitted that she did bury her brother and didn’t try to lie and cover it up. Ismene on the other hand was intimidated by the king and didn’t want to get in trouble even though it was her own brother. She believed that they should both obey the rules and Antigone was frustrated at Ismene because she wouldn’t aid her in giving their brother an appropriate burial. Antigone wanted to prove that her brother was just like everyone else and deserved a proper burial even though he fought for the other country. Since Antigone cared so much and fought for her brother it led to her tragic death. In the end, Antigone sacrificed her life by hanging herself with a veil in the prison, for the rights of her brother.

  9. Sacrifice by definition means giving up of something valuable or important for somebody or something else considered to be more important. I believe that the greatest sacrifice is showed in William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. Both Romeo and Juliet give up the greatest thing of all they give their lives. Some people (Amy) would consider this meaningless suicide. However as expressed by the definition sacrifice means giving something up for something more important, they gave their lives for the love they had for each other. Their deaths not only affected them but it affected their families. The two families were feuding and because of the deaths of Romeo and Juliet they ended their feud. The death of Romeo and Juliet was in my opinion the most meaningful sacrifice of all time.

  10. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George tries to find a way to keep his best friend Lennie alive. Unfortunately, Lennie accidentally killed Candy, Curley's wife, by breaking her neck. Lennie knew he had to get away after he did this. He remembered that George had told him to meet him at the green pool of the Salinas River if he ever got in trouble. Shortly after Lennie got there, George showed up and Lennie confessed that he had killed Candy. George and Lennie talked for a while about the good times they had. After George heard the men getting close to them, he described to Lennie for the last time the farm that they had dreamed about getting. He then told Lennie to look across the river and pointed a gun at the back of his head and pulled the trigger. George was very upset at having to kill Lennie, but he realized that his only real choice was for him to kill Lennie himself. George knew that if the town's people or Curly found Lennie they would only torture him to death and George couldn't stand the thought of that happening. George's sacrifice in the end took a lot of strenth. George had to kill his best friend for what he thought was the only logical solution. George will always live with the guilt of what he had to do, but in his heart he knew he did the best thing he could for Lennie, his best friend. Slim told George what he did was right and what had to be done. Slim understood and consoled George. Curly and the town people were satisfied that Lennie was dead.

  11. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, there are many sacrifices made throughout. Many of the character's lives are sacrificed in this play. Paris, Tybalt, and Mercutio all die fighting for a certain cause. However, the main act of sacrifice in Romeo and Juliet is when Juliet attempts to fake her own death. Because Romeo is banished from Verona, Juliet tries to fake her death in hopes of being with him. In the end, Juliet ends up actually killing herself when she thinks that Romeo has died. Everyone around Juliet is deeply affected by her death. Her family and her nurse mourn after losing her.

  12. In "The Tempest", there are a few key teachings of sacrifice. Prospero, who is kind of like the "king" of the island sacrifices his magic. He knows that he only uses his magic for bad things, and he decides to change. Also, he sacrifices having servents at his side 24/7 by freeing Caliban and Ariel. This shows how throughout the story his character changed, and matured. These actions he made showed big signs of sacrifice.

  13. Sacrifice involves giving up something important for a goal that is even more important. The play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare shows the ultimate sacrifice made for a loved one. Both Romeo and Juliet give up their lives for eachother's sake. Their love is forbidden and they simply cannot be without eachother. In a desperate attempt to run away together, Juliet fakes her own death. Failure to communicate leaves Romeo broken hearted because he thinks she is really dead. Utterly depressed and suicidal, he drinks poison and dies. Juliet enters minutes later and cries out in despair. Seeing no other option, she stabs herself. They die next to eachother. The young lovers give up their own lives in order to be with eachother. In my opinion, that is the ultimate sacrifice.

  15. In John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Mice and Men, the main character, George makes sacrifices for Lennie. George mentions over and over that he could've had a better life if he didn't have to take care of Lennie. He says he could do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, but he has to take care of Lennie. His sacrifice only really affects Lennie. It keeps him from living in a cave, all alone in the mountains. George also makes a sacrifice at the end of the novel. He kills Lennie. Despite his personal feelings, he decides to kill Lennie so he doesn't have to live life in jail, or be lynched by the mob of people after him. This makes George feel melancholic and he isn't like himself; he's no longer his usual confident self. This also affects their dream as well as the new dream of Candy, to live on their own and live off the fat of the land. Now that Lennie's gone, they no longer have enough money to buy their stake, so their dreams are gone.

  16. Sacrifice involves giving up something important for a goal that is even more important. In the novel "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare ,Prospero gives up his revenge on his brother. Now he is free to come back and rule the kingdom like he used to. He spent years plotting his revenge and knew exactly how he was going to do it. He was now setting a good example for his daughter too. He also gave up his magic. He loved his magic so much to the point where it cost him his kingdom at the beginning of the story. He knew that getting another chance to rule the kingdom was far more important than all the harmful things that seem to only come from his magic. The most important thing he sacrificed was his pride.

  17. Im the story Romeo and Juliet there are many sacrifices. From all of the sacrifice there is one that clearly stands out, when Mercutio fights for Romeo and dies form him. Due to Romeo not being able to back down from the fight Mercutio sees that Romeo doesn't stand of chance aggenst Tibalt. Even though Romeo interfering leads to Mercutio death he doesn't blame Romeo he blames to two houses of Montagues and Capulets for his death. This shows how good of a friend Mercutio as towards Romeo and. It's also he wanted him to have a better life with Juliet, instead of ending up like him dyeing for a ridiculous cause

  19. In "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, Sacrifice is an important key. many lives are sacrificed for a noble cause. People like Tybalt, Paris, and even Mercutio died for what they believed in. The most important sacrifice, though, is when Romeo and Juliet die for each other because of their great love. This sacrifice shows that love conquers all boundaries, even death. at the end of the play, the deaths of both of them end the feud between their two families. Everyone that Romeo and Juliet knew that are still alive mourn them and decide to build them a statue to remember them. Everyone then realized that feuding effects everyone in different ways, some being fatal.

In John Steinbeck's story of Mice and Men there are significant examples of sacrifice. For instance, George was forced to kill his best friend and partner in crime so he wasn’t tortured. Lennie is quite a different character that has extreme strength that he greatly underestimates. When he kills’s a puppy, and Curley's wife Candy everyone was out for him and they were going to shot him. George obviously didn't want him to be killed but he knew that it was what's best for him. However, instead of him suffering and having strangers from the ranch killing him he discovers that it's best if he does it peacefully and quick. This took a huge toll on George because he lost his best friend, the person he planned on getting a home with and starting a new life on their own personal ranch that they could make their own crops and provide for themselves. He had a great sacrifice and even though it may have been a hard decision he knew that it was right and it was the best option for both Lennie and himself. I believe that sacrificing a person that mean's the most to you in the biggest sacrifice anyone can give. Of course it's not going to be easy but it's better than to of had the others kill him slowly and torture him so he feel's every bit of pain, and he just has to sit there and watch it all happen. George will always live with the guilt of killing his best friend and partner but he knows deep down that it was the right choice for him.

  21. In the novel "In the Time of Butterflies" written by Julia Alvarez the four Mirabal sisters make a great sacrifice to fight for what is right. The sisters fight against the Dictator to save lives and to gain freedom. They lose close friends and are hunted by the army to hold them back. All of them risked not only their lives but the lives of everyone who was close to them. Three of the sisters were caught and thrown in jail for a great period of time. When many hid in fear of the dictators ultimate power the sisters stood up and fought though they were wanted dead for doing so. The last and greatest sacrifice they had to give was their lives; they were martyrs for their cause. If dyeing meant bringing down the man of their oppression then so be it.
