The Moon at the Fortified Pass is my favorite out of all the chinese Literature that we read.It explains the feelings of a soldier to war in a detailed and meaningful way.On an Autumn Evening in the Mountains is another one of my favorites. It has such a vivid description but also has such a calming tone to it.My favorite line from it has to be "As moonbeams filter through the pine trees". The reason Why i like it is that i can feel like i am there.
bluesky The Chinese literature work I liked the best was the rules of the game. I felt like this was a good piece, and I found it very interesting in how she refers to everything in her life to a chess game. I also found it comforting how much her mother wanted to do/except things to make her family fit in and be accepted by the "American people". The family has there up's and down's like every normal family does, however Waverly begins to notice she is being treated like royalty because of her talent. For example, she is excused out of chores because her mom says she has to practice her chess skills. Waverly feels bad for her siblings and wants to help, and be treated equally the way they are. This eventually drove her to give up playing chess for a little while. This story is all about explaining her relationship with her mother; how they fight, their opponents, and that the game is about give and take.
My favorite Chinese literature work was The Rules of the Game. Waverly connected everything in her life to chess. Chess was the only thing she cared about. She gets treated unfairly compared to her siblings, and she starts to notice that. She eventually gives up chess for a while to help with chores and other jobs around the house. The Rules of the Game explains Waverly's relationship with her mother; its like a game of chess.
The Chinese literature poem I liked the most was Addressed Humorously to Tu Fu. It's an enjoyable poem because it just talks about two poets. But I see two friends having fun on top of Fan-ko Mountain. I like having adventures with my friends and this is one of the reasons I like this short poem because I can relate to a lot of it. Then Lan Ying points out after seeing his friend on the top of the mountain on what he has become. He jokes about it and says "You must have been suffering from poetry again." and he turns it into a positive thing.
-Kaitlyn Wallace My favorite chinese literature was The Rules of the Game. It wasn't just describing a game of chess, but it was actually relating the life of Waverly to it. Compared to her siblings, she was treated very different, but not in the greatest way possible. Which I think is what pushed her to become such a good chess player. Until she quit for a while, because of how upset she had gotten. Near the end sit explains how her relationship with her mother is just like a game of chess. And I think that's really creative, which is why I liked this piece of literature the most.
My favorite work in this Chinese Literature unit was “To the Assistant of Perfect Chang”. The writer was Wang Wei, and he was a Chan Buddhist. This was my favorite work because I liked the message it portrayed. To me it is saying when you are older in years it is time to relax and distress and become one with the world. I completely agree with this statement I think that this is how everyone showed approach old age. That is why Wang Wei’s “To the Assistant of Perfect Chang” is my favorite Chinese work.
My favorite piece of chinese literature was the Rules of the Game. I liked this one the best because I really liked how the author related the relationship between Waverly and her mother. Also, I liked how Waverly was trying to prove herself not only as a good chess player, but as a female chinese girl. She was treated differently than her brothers and she wanted to make her mother proud of her by playing chess. I think that her mother was afraid to no fit in with Americans and that is why she didnt approve of Waverlys chess playing. If Waverly was not a champion, I think she would still treat her unfairly compared to her siblings. The Rules of the Game was my favorite piece of chinese literature.
My favorite work that we read in class would have to be The River –Merchants Wife: A Letter. Li Po writes through the persona of the opposite gender and you cannot even tell. The story really shows you how arranged marriages happened and how they eventually fell in love with them. The poem talks about time passing and the moss growing by the fence so you really get an idea of it. It’s sad to think about this girl which Li Po is writing himself as is waiting for her husband to come back. The details almost make you want to assume he is dead and her sitting around saying ill meet you if you tell me is sad.
My favorite Chinese literature work would have to be the rules of the game. I picked the rules of the game because I liked how Waverly related everything in her life to a chess game. When she referred her opponent to be her mother, she is referring to their relationship. For example, her mom was freaking out because Waverly lost pieces. Waverly tells her mother you have to "give and take". Her mother just doesn’t understand. This proves that they don’t have a good relationship, but they work threw their differences and become one with each other.
The Chinese poem I thought was the best was "Addressed Humorously to Tu Fu". IT's a good poem because its supposed to be a humorous letter to a fellow poet. It shows me that the two poets were obviosly good friends. I also like this poem because the shortness of it makes it good, not to mention the humor at the end. He makes the saying "You must have been suffering from poetry again." humorous and makers it seem positive. That's why I like this poem.
My favorite work in Chinese Literature so far is “Rules of the Game.” A reason why it would be one of my favorites is because I admire how smart and persistent Waverly is. Also, I thought it was amusing how she’s kind of playing a chess game in reality with her mother. Waverly is always trying to outsmart her mom and never seems to agree to anything. In addition, I like this Chinese literature because in the end, Waverly proves to be an independent girl who just wanted to play chess for the fun of it even though her mother disapproved. Once Waverly becomes known for her chess playing, her mom started bragging about it to anyone who glanced at her and pressures her to win so she can fit in, in America without feeling like an outcast. I thought that this story was very interesting, so that is why I chose this piece as my favorite work of literature.
My favorite work we read was "The Analects". I enjoyed reading about how Confucius thought people should behave. He had a interesting view of how people should act. I believe that the world could be a better place if went by Confucius' ideas. That is why "The Analects" is my favorite chinese work we read.
My favorite Chinese Literature work from this unit, was Rules of the Game. This was definitely my favorite for many reasons. I think this work had a great story to it, and it was very interesting. I liked the way it showed how Waverly was willing to learn everything she could to become a better chess player, then her mom let it all get to her head. Waverly gave her mom a wake up call and showed her that she was being rediculous by running away from her. That is why Rules of the Game is farmost my favorite piece of Chinese Literature.
In my opinion the best poem in the Chinese Literature unit is "The River-Merchant's Wife: A Ltter." I believe it is the best because the imagery is nonetheless very descriptive. Also, as mentioned in class it is very radical for poetry in this time. In addition, I like that it was written in a persona which I like a lot. Another reason I like the poem is because of its theme of love and loss. Finally, I like it because it has butterflies in it. I like butterflies.
My favorit Chinese Literature so far would be the Rules of the Game. I found myself to really enjoy this piece because of how she compares everything in life to a chess game. Waverly showed that life has its ups and downs with the chess game. I feel it shows what happens to most people when they let things get to their heads. The chess game even represents the relationship with Waverly and her mother. I feel like this piece was good over all and my favorite Chinese Literature.
My favorite poem was Stubstance, Shadow, Spirit. It shows different life styles in the Chinese culture. And how each one will benefit a persons life, if they follow it. Also, it predicts the how people will die by their beleifs during thier lives. It sets and example, and gives readers ideas on how to live healthly. This poem helps people find something to follow instead of living carelessly.
My favorite poem in this unit was the river merchant's wife. I liked all of the different ways that Li Po was able to become the persina of a woman. It was a very sad story yet it had a nice amount of accptence to her arranged marriage after she fell in love with him. All in all I liked this one the best. the other ones were really lame and boring.
My favorite Chinese literature work would be substance, shadow, and spirit. I liked this peice because they were explaining on how you should live, for the moment. It gave people a better understanding of why we should live in the moment. I feel like this is how people should relate to their own lives. Substance shadow and spirit influences people to live their lifestyle. Which I feel is a good thing to stress, considering you should live in the moment.
