Stephano said: "How cam'st to be the siege of this mooncalf?" I just found it sort of funny because Stephano is drunk at the time. Also, being slighty confused due to the liqour, he really is asking how Caliban pooped out Trinculo. This is obviously not physically posssible, and I pictured Caliban trying to crap out Trinculo and found it rather amusing. This is in Scene I Act II of this play. Also I find this qoute funny just because Stephano is completely disoriented from drinking.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote so far is when Miranda and Prospero are speaking to one another about his past and Miranda says: "Good wombs have born bad sons." This is my favorite quote because she is speaking about the truth of the matter even though she is very young and sheltered. It even applies to the world today. You look at the news and see all of the men going to jail or they committed some crime and are looking at huge consequences. I always think of how their mothers probably feel, guilty, ashamed, hurt, and disarmed from shock. That's why I chose this quote to be my favorite because I've always wondered what mothers feel in a situation like that.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote in Act 2 is when Stephano thinks there is a four legged monster. He is so drunk that he believes that there are two voices and four legs. “Four legs and two voices: a most delicate monster! His forward voice now is to speak well of his friend; his backward voice is to utter foul speeches and to detract. If all the wine in my bottle will recover him, I will help his ague. Come. Amen! I will pour some in thy other mouth.” If Stephano was not intoxicated he would have realized that it was two people. I thought this quote was hilarious because it was so obvious that this was two people, not a four legged monster. The beginning of the play started out boring. But in this act, the tables turned and sparked my attention.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote from the tempest was “Tis a fish it must be a fish”. Tranculo says this when he sees and smells Caliban. This quote is my favorite because it shows how judgmental people are. He sees this poor creature and decides it is something that it isn’t like some people would say oh he’s Goth or she’s Preppy. Judging a book by its cover is never the way things should be done all it does is cause people pain and sadness. So to me this quote is Shakespeare showing us that we shouldn’t judge other people because they are different.
ReplyDelete"No, precious creature, I had rather crack my sinews, break my back, Than you should suck dishonor undergo While I sit lazy by." This quote is from Ferdinand after Miranda tries to help him with his labor. It shows how much Ferdinand loves Miranda, that he doesnt mind working for Prospero, as long as she becomes his wife. This quote is my favorite because it describes Ferdinand as being a loyal, caring, determined man. And it's rare to find someone who is that willingly to be with somebody, so Miranda is lucky to have Ferdinand treat her that way. I believe Ferdinand should finally be able to marry Miranda because he worked hard for Prospero's approval.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote from the Tempest was when Miranda says " O dear father, make not too rash trial of him, for He's gentle and not fearful". This quote is in Act 1 Scene 2. I think this quote is funny because it shows that Miranda really cares about Ferdinand. Miranda barely knows Ferdinand and she is acting like she is in love with him. She cares is Prospero questions him. I think it is funny that she is in love with him the first time she ever meets him. This quote shows how nieve and willing Miranda is to fall in love with anyone.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote happens when Prospero is telling Miranda about his past life. Miranda says “Good wombs have borne bad sons”. It is my favorite quote because it is very true and a non judgmental statement. For being sheltered and living secluded on an island for 12 years Miranda seems to really know what she’s talking about, about people. This statement is non judgmental because you are realizing that it is not the mothers fault for a bad son. People always blame the mother for having a bad and this quote stood out because this someone who sees it the other way.
ReplyDelete"How cam'st to be the siege of this mooncalf?" I thought it was the funniest quote i've seen so far. First off it's quite funny because of how drunk Stephano is when he enters the scene. Second Caliban and Trinculo wasn't even fazed by the very rude remark by Stephano. Then you realize "how would that even work?" you can't poop out a man. But that's what made it even funnier to realize how drunk Stephano was.

ReplyDeleteSo far in The Tempest, my favorite quote was when Stephano says "How cam'st to be the siege of this mooncalf?". Stephano is drunk, so he doesn't really know whats going on. The lines that he are saying don't make much sense because he is drunk and doesn't know what he is talking about. Basically, Stephano asked Trinculo how Caliban pooped him out. Everything that Stephano says in this scene is basically him rambling on and on about whatever he wants. None of his lines make sense, and that's what I like about this quote and scene.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote so far in the Tempest would definitely have to be in act 2, scene 2 when Caliban says "sometime like apes that mow and chatter at me, and after bite me; then like hedgehogs which lie tumbling in my barefoot way and mount their pricks at my football; sometime am I all wound with adders, who with cloven tongues do hiss me into madness." I choose this because I think it’s hilarious how the animals treat him. Basically what he said is that they bite him, and get in his pathway so that he will trip. It’s like all of Mother Nature hates him. Making faces and tormenting him to make his life worse. Thinking its Prospero's way of getting revenge, as he also believes it’s the gods. This quote is just funny because of how the animals join in the “hatred” of Caliban.
My favorite quote from The Tempest was definately "Hell is empty, and all the devils are here.". By Ferdinand in Act. 1, Scene 2, lines 213-214. Why this quote is so appealing to me is simply because it makes it seem like he is talking about all the bad things that have happened since the Royalty left from the wedding. We can consider devils the sources of all evil, and make bad things happpen. Because they don't know Prospero created the storm, Ferdinand can consider it the works of the devils that left Hell, and are on the island. This quote says a lot about the things happening in this play so far, which is why I like it so much.

Personally, my favorite quote from The Tempest is when Stephano says "How cam'st to be the siege of this mooncalf?". This happens to be my favorite because while stephano is drunk, he is also clueless. He has no idea what he is talking about. When Trinculo comes out from under Caliban's garment, Stephano is basically confused on how this "fish" pooped him out. I just found this quote to be funny because it shows Stephano's character as a drunk. That is why this quote is definitely my favorite.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote is “These be fine things, an if they be not sprites. That’s a brave god and bears celestial liquor. I will kneel to him.” This quote is from Act two scene two. It is one of my favorite quotes in "The Tempest" because I think that it’s pretty funny. This was funny because Caliban says this and he is drunk from being forced to drink alcohol by Stephano. Caliban thinks that the liquor came from heaven, so he assumes that Stephano and Trinculo are gods. So this quote is particularly funny because since Caliban is drunk, he can’t think straight and that’s why this quote is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote from the Tempast, would be Act 2, scene 1, lines 83-84. Miranda says ' I am your wife if you will marry me; if not I shall die your maid. ' This quote is my favorite one because Miranda is willing to marry Ferdinand, although she does not know him. Also, she is stating that if he won't agree to marry her she will be his maid, forever until she dies. This makes me laugh, because she is so blinded by it, she is so into Ferdinand she fails to see who he really is. Also, that she is willing to slave herself, and give up her values and rights to help him, forever.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote from "The Tempest" would be Act I, Scene ii, Lines 349-351. The quote is "O ho, Oh ho! Would't had been done!; Thou didst prevent me; I had peopled else; This isle with Calibans." This is my favorite quote because I think it's kind of funny. When I think of it, I think of a bunch of tiny Calibans running around the isle. Then again, the quote is also very weird and disturbing. That means Caliban had to have... been a father and find somebody that would WANT to... be the mother. Also, I picture him as a very ugly beast, so a bunch of little ugly baby Calibans would be a little creepy. Still, none the less, I think it would be funny to have a bunch of little Calibans running around the island.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote from The Tempest was made by Gonzalo. He said, "I have great comfort from this fellow: methinks he hath no drowning mark upon him; his complexion is perfect gallows. Stand fast, good Fate, to his hanging: make the rope of his destiny our cable, for our own doth little advantage. If he be not born to be hanged, our case is miserable. This quote was appealing to me because it made me laugh in a funny, strange kind of way. Most people who think they are about to die for any reason would not even give a thought or consideration to the idea that the way someone looks could be the reason why they won't end up dead. Gonzalo is scared to death that they might all drown, but he feels confident that this won't happen due to the fact that he thinks the Boatswain looks like he was born to be hanged, not drowned in a storm. He even went on to insinuate that if the Boatswain was not born to be hung, they would all probably drown.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote from act 1 and 2 is when prosperous is asking ariel if he sunk the ship or not when Prospero says "But are they, Ariel, safe?". I found this part kind of funny when Prospero wanted to cause a storm and wreck the royals boat but asked Ariel if they were ok. The tells us that Prospero wants to make them suffer not just kill them. Also Prospero took away Alonsos son to cause further suffrage. In this act it also shows how obeying Ariel is and that he uses magic on his daughter. This is why I like this quote.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote from The Tempest is a line from Stephano in the second act. He says "Four legs and two voices-a most delicate monster! His forward voice now is to speak well of his friend; his backward voice is to utter foul speeches and to detract. If all the wine in my bottle will recover him, I will help his ague. Come. Amen! I will pour some in thy other mouth.” This is my favorite quote because Stephano brings humor to the play. Stephano's judgement is blurred because of the alcohol he has consumed. He think's that it is one monster under the cloak, but it's Caliban and Trinculo. He then thinks that instead of a monster, Caliban and Trinculo are the devil. Without the alcohol it would be clear to him that it was just the two men.
My favorite quote in scene 1 and 2 is"How cam'st to be the siege of this mooncalf?". Stephano said this when he was very drunk which is quite amusing. He says this to Trinculo in confusion after seeing him creep out of Caliban garment. Stephano is asking if Trinculo was the poop of Caliban. I find this very funny because everyone in this scene is really drunk and is clueless about what is going on and they all are just rambling about nonsense.
