Write an Ode

Write your own ode based on the Pablo Neruda odes we read and discussed in class. Be sure to incorporate some Surrealist elements into your ode (refer to the "Surrealism" handout I distributed in class if you are unsure). Their Eyes Were Watching God

In the movie based on Zora Neale Hurston's novel, Janie struggles to find love. One could argue Janie is a victim because of her gender and that she finds true companionship only when she is respected as a female.

In what ways does gender influence Janie? Cite specific examples from the movie.

How does "The Aftermath," which was added to Hiroshima in 1985, change your perceptions of the incident itself and the story? Does it enhance or detract from its drama?
